We teach children lots of things. How to go to the potty. How to tie their shoes. But what do we teach them about a very important subject - germ control?
As a child care provider, you know how the spread of germs impacts your facility. You already follow the guideliness for cleanliness but still, cold and flu season means lots of illness.
Germs know that young children are perfect carriers. They have immature immune systems, they touch everything and they don't have an issue coughing and sneezing everywhere! The battle lines have been drawn and without good germ control practices, smart money is on the germs.
Although NAYEC and the medical community recommends teaching to cough and sneeze into the elbow, up until now there has not been a easy way how to teach them.
Telling a child "Cough in to your elbow" is like asking them to eat brussel sprouts. It is a well known fact that children respond well to characters. The Germy Wormy character's favorite food is germs and he is sooo hungry. When your child coughs or sneezes you can say "Let's give those germs to the Germy Wormy! He is sooo hungry!" Children have fun "feeding" the Germy Wormy.
The key to success with Germy Wormy is introducing the character to children. We have created the following free tools to help you do so.
Step 1 - Review the Teacher Curriculum, print out the Poster
- Germy Wormy Poster - An easy way to show the wrong and right ways to cough and sneeze. Print it out and post it where children will easily see it.
Step 1 - Order Germy Wormy
We recommend having 5 Germy Wormy's per child in your care. They come packaged 25 in a box.
It is highly recommended that the children also use the Germy Wormy at home. Please feel free to refer parents to the Parents page of our website. I am sure they will be happy to learn that you are doing everything you can to reduce germs in your class and will want to use them at home to reduce germs in their home!
Buying in larger quantities helps reduce shipping costs. Talk with the parents and see if they would be willing to order their product with yours.
We are committed to your success in teaching good germ control with the Germy Wormy. If you have any questions, please contact us at 1-888-GERMY88 Toll Free (888-437-698).
